All Westridge Sponge playoff games will be listed in this section. They will only be entered into the schedule section once games are determined. Please always check back here for all matchups. All Playoff brackets will be posted at the club.
2Westirdge Sponge Hockey Playoffs & Qualification
All attacking players must play a minimum of 4 regular season games to be eligible to play in the playoffs. Goaltenders are required to play in at least 1 game (in the goalie position) to be eligible to play goal in the playoffs. Attackers with 6 or more games may play as a goalie in the playoffs if required. If a goalie has played 6 or more games in the regular season, they can play as an attacker in the playoffs.
Any player that has not played the minimum amount of games as per the statistics section on the website will not be eligible to play in the playoffs. Please check this section carefully prior to the playoffs. In the event a team would like to dispute the amount of games a player has played, the league will review the season's game sheets. If the amount of games was correct, there will be a $10.00 charge. If there was an error, the fee will be waved and the stats will be corrected. Disputes must be presented 48 hours prior to the start of the playoffs.
Picture ID may be required at any time during the playoffs to confirm any roster distputes presented by the league or opposing teams.
Playoffs are double elimination Format
Coed Division Playoff
All teams will make playoffs in a double elimination format.
Men's Division Playoff
All teams will make playoffs in a double elimination format.
Tie in Standings
A tie in standings between TWO TEAMS will be decided by the following:
1.) Most wins during regular season
2.) Head to head series
3.) Overall +/- goals for minus goals against
4.) Least goals against
5.) Most goals for
6.) Fewest penalty minutes.
7.) Flip of a coin.
If THREE OR MORE TEAMS have identical records, then their ranking is determined by the higher number of points in a special standing composed just from the results of their head-to-head (mutual) games if equal games playerd apply to all teams involved. If the number of points is equal between any of the teams in this special standing just from the results of their head-to-head (mutual) games or teams do not have equal games played between them , then the following tie breaking criteria applies (with no secondary return to the head-to-head results):
1. Overall +/- goals for minus goals against from original standings
2. Overall least goals against from original standings
3. Overall most goals for from original standings
4. Fewest penalty minutes.
5. Flip of a coin.
Overtime in Playoffs
-One 10 minute overtime period, first 8 minutes running time, last 2 minutes will be stop time. Finals will be one 20 minute overtime period with last 2 minute’s stop time.
-5 on 5, sudden death.
-If still tied, then a shootout.
-3 shooters from each team, if still tied then 1 shooter per round until a winner.
For Coed, at least one female must participate in the shootout for each team. If a shootout advances to sudden-death rounds, a female player must take at least every second attempt.
-The home team will have the choice of which team shoots first.
-Players cannot shoot a 2nd time until the entire roster has been used.
-Players in the penalty box at the end of overtime are not eligible for the shootout.
-If a team has used their time out in regulation time, they do not get an extra time out in the overtime.
